You want your wheels to be rigid, strong, light ... and you want them to have a power meter. And while the two are often mutually exclusive, the G3 ENVE SES 3. 4 Power Meter Clincher Wheelset mates them perfectly. The rims are the same used for the ENVE Smart System 3. 4 carbon clinchers. Designed by aero-engineer Simon Smart, these wheels feature a front wheel that is 25mm deep and 26mm wide and a rear that is 45mm deep and 24mm wide. At first this seems odd, but the design partners perfectly with the different behaviors of front and rear wheels to reduce drag. Not only are these wheels fast, they are also strong with a patented process by which spoke holes, nipple seats, and valve stem holes are molded into the wheel itself. The other half of the wheelset's equation utilizes PowerTap's G3 rear hub. A step beyond the laudable SL+, it is 80 grams lighter and more rigid due to wider flanges. Additionally, the G3 is service-friendly with all of the electronics moved to the end cap of the hub. This means that you don't have to swap out the whole wheel if a repair is necessary. Like its predecessors, the G3 is ANT+ wireless compatible and also works in conjunction with the new Joule GPS computer, sold separately. It holds 15 hours of data gathered at one-second intervals. The PowerTap G3 still has a torque tube with eight strain gauges, yielding measurements accurate within +/- 1. 5% between 40 and 130 rpm. The front hub is also a new beefier design by PowerTap with a 10mm axle, aluminum hub shell, and sealed cartridge bearings.
